Hey hey hey! Welcome back to WearFaithEssence with a motivational post. I know what it is like to be a busy adult and I also know how frustrating life can be when we lose track of time or miss a deadline. With these 6 tips today, I know that you are well on your way to not only being more productive but also accomplishing whatever life throws your way.
Happy reading! xx
Create a To-Do List
I’m a sucker for a good list. List out everything you need to do before you start your day. Lists are essential to keeping you focused, on track and accountable! So, before you start another day, make a list of things you need to tackle and be specific to set your agenda in order of importance (most to least, i.e. work to watching your Netflix show). Feel free to utilize the ‘Reminders’ app on your iPhone, sorry Android, I don’t what yours is called, lol, to keep a running list or use the ‘Notes’ section.
Pick out clothes the night before
When I was in college, I used to pick out a week’s worth of clothes and have them hung and ready. My friends would not only think that I was overly-prepared, but that I also had a shopping problem, because of my emporium I call a “closet”. This made my mornings easier & less stressful because I knew exactly how I was going to look and feel in my outfit. For example, I’d check the weather on Sunday evening for the next 5 days (Monday thru Friday) and then I’d find outfits and get them ironed. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Use the Focus Keeper app or Timer Tab
Raise your hand if you’ve got 17 tabs open and don’t know where the music is coming from?! That’s me! The Focus Keeper app, (download HERE for Apple and HERE for Google Play) is perfect for allocating time for particular tasks. In the free version, you can set a time to focus and then when the timer goes off, you get a break. The interval continues for your allocated preference and then you’re free to start another task. While the timer tab is not an app, it is perfect for utilizing at home. Open timer-tab.com in a new tab and set your designated length of time. Once the timer goes off (an obnoxious flashing red symbol) you are done!
Schedule a Workout
You only need one. Yes, one. Please don’t go overboard and attempt to tackle 4-day workouts, it’s not necessary if that’s not who you already are. The goal is to be more productive, not accomplish your 2019 New Year’s Goal! Designate one day a week to working out and I promise you, sooner than later, you’ll want to workout more. By allocating time to exercise and feel better about yourself, ultimately, you’ll work smarter not harder, during the day. Exercise is great for boosting the “happy hormones” and studies have shown that even ONE day of exercise for 75 minutes is suitable (source, here), so what are you waiting for? Schedule a workout!
Develop 1 major goal for the week
This past week, my goal was to plan and create content for my social media sites and the blog… look, I did it! Yay! We spend so much of our time planning the next 6 months, so how about we plan for the next 7 days, instead? Every Sunday, determine your weekly goal. It can be as silly as “waking up the first time your alarm goes off” or “eating breakfast every morning”. No matter the goal, make it specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely aka… SMART! This will not only make it easier on you but then you will feel amazing when you’ve accomplished it. Start small and then work your way up, remember there is no pressure. And if you miss this week's goal, try it again the following week, but do not beat yourself up about it.
Schedule Daily “Me” Time
If you don’t love yourself, how can someone else love you? I learned that one of the best ways for me to remain productive and efficient is to make sure that I schedule time daily, to do an activity that I find relaxing and enjoyable. For me, this is generally reading a book (see some of my favorites?), watching a Hallmark Christmas movie, catching up on my DVR recordings or just laying on the couch listening to my Spotify playlist. Whatever you do, make sure it is something that brings you joy and fulfillment. Avoid doing strenuous things, unless exercise is your “me” time and focus on activities that cultivate tranquility. By allocating time for yourself daily, you are reminding your other habits and activities that YOU still matter.
